The upcoming Sunday Night Football clash with the Seattle Seahawks is pivotal for the Washington Commanders’ slim playoff chances.
A win is essential to keep contention hopes alive. This matchup may determine whether the burgundy and gold remain competitive or start considering trade-out changes for the remainder of the season.
UKHTTC’s Christian breaks down where the Commanders could find success in Seattle—and the challenges that could derail their efforts.
Can Jayden Daniels and the Rookie Running Back Hit Their Stride?
Under the stadium lights and finally without a brace, could this be the moment Jayden Daniels truly shows his 2024 form? Washington’s season has been inconsistent, particularly at quarterback. After missing the away game in Kansas, Daniels looks to lead an offense that, despite the absence of WR1 Terry McLaurin, still features stars like Deebo Samuel and the steadily improving Luke McCaffrey.
Attention also turns to Treyvon Burks, whose NFL journey stalled in Tennessee. Could he finally thrive in Washington, a team that has lacked a big-bodied receiver since Noah Brown’s departure?
Rushing Attack: Can It Be Revitalized?
Croskey-Merritt, aka Bill, has struggled recently as opposing defenses have had little problems in neutralising the injury-hit Washington perimeter threats. However, the Seahawks present a truly elite test—they are ranked number one against the run, allowing just 75.7 rushing yards per game. Revitalising the ground game will be a tough challenge for the Commanders tonight.
Luvu to Step Up?
Frankie Luvu brought energy to Washington’s defense in 2024 but has yet to be a disruptive force in 2025. While not the type of player who can dominate a game alone, Luvu could make a key play or two. Expect the Commanders to use him creatively—moving him around to generate pressure. An aggressive defensive start will be essential to keep the game competitive.
Injury Concerns Compound the Challenge
The season has been riddled with injuries for Washington. LT Laremy Tunsil has been solid but is questionable with a hamstring issue. His absence would make an already difficult matchup even tougher, although backup Brandon Coleman performed admirably against the Chiefs last weekend.
Meanwhile, Terry McLaurin remains sidelined with a nagging quad injury. His limited availability has mirrored the inconsistency that has plagued the Commanders all season, particularly the connection between him and Daniels.
Score Prediction: Seahawks Likely Too Strong
Can Washington pressure Sam Darnold? He prefers a clean pocket and isn’t particularly mobile. A healthy Daron Payne and Javon Kinlaw in the interior defensive line is a plus, but collapsing the pocket against a solid, if not elite, Seattle offensive line will be a tall order.
Unfortunately, Washington’s defense—including a backfield that has struggled all season—likely won’t deliver the game-saving performance needed. With three wins already on the road, the Seahawks are poised to put the final nail in the 2025 season coffin.
Prediction: Seattle 28, Washington 17. Post-game, fans might need a little therapy for attachment disorder… especially if you’re holding onto any hope this season or have a roster favourite - yikes.
